FAQ
Pores: Frequently Asked Questions
My enlarged pores won't go away—can treatment help improve them?
Enlarged pores can be made less noticeable through treatments tailored to their underlying causes and your skin condition. At YAYOI CLINIC, we offer options such as TriBeam Premium, which is designed to tighten the skin, and Potenza, which uses micro-needles and radiofrequency. We’ll assess the condition of your pores during your consultation and recommend the most suitable treatment.
What treatments are available for melanin-related pores?
For melanin-related pores, treatments such as laser therapy and chemical peels may be considered depending on the degree of pigmentation. Since the underlying cause differs from that of clogged pores, cleansing alone may not be sufficient in some cases. At YAYOI CLINIC, we assess your skin condition and aim for gradual improvement by combining treatments as needed.
Why do blackheads form?
Blackheads are primarily caused by oxidized sebum plugs that appear black. These plugs are a mixture of sebum and dead skin cells, and they tend to be particularly noticeable around the nose, where sebum production is high. However, since fine hairs or pigmentation can sometimes appear as blackheads, it’s important not to determine the cause based on appearance alone, but rather to choose a treatment appropriate for your specific condition.
How does YAYOI CLINIC choose which pore treatments to offer?
At YAYOI CLINIC, our doctors assess conditions such as enlarged pores, clogged pores, and dryness, and select a treatment based on the underlying cause. Using the VISIA skin analysis system, we quantify factors such as the number of pores, allowing us to compare changes before and after treatment. Based on the consultation results, as well as your skin type and specific concerns, we determine the most appropriate treatment and home care regimen.
How many sessions of pore treatment should I have?
The number of sessions required for pore treatment varies depending on the condition of your pores and the treatment you choose. At YAYOI CLINIC, we use the Long Pulse mode of the TriBeam Premium—designed to address enlarged pores—to improve the overall appearance of your skin through a series of treatments. Please consult with us during your consultation to discuss a specific treatment plan.
Does pore treatment hurt?
The level of discomfort associated with pore treatments varies depending on the procedure and individual sensitivity. At YAYOI CLINIC, we offer various methods to minimize discomfort based on the specific treatment, such as the Potenza procedure, which uses fine needles and radiofrequency. If you’re concerned about pain, please let us know during your consultation.
How long is the downtime for pore treatment?
Downtime for pore treatments varies depending on the procedure. While HydraFacial typically involves relatively little downtime, Potenza may cause redness or swelling, with downtime generally ranging from a few hours to about one week. At YAYOI CLINIC, we provide post-treatment care instructions tailored to your specific treatment, so please let us know during your consultation if you have any upcoming plans.
How should I choose a home care product for my pores?
When it comes to at-home pore care, it’s important to choose products based on the condition of your pores and your skin type. At YAYOI CLINIC, we partner with our specialty store, “Y SKIN LAB,” to offer guidance on selecting toners, serums, primers, and other products. Since DIY blackhead masks and harsh scrubs can damage your skin, a skincare consultation can help you reassess your daily routine.
Can pore cleansing help treat blackheads and clogged pores?
For blackheads caused by sebum plugs and dirt, pore cleansing is an option. YAYOI CLINIC’s HydraFacial uses water jets and suction to target impurities and dead skin cells in the pores. However, since the dark appearance may sometimes be caused by fine vellus hair or pigmentation, we assess your skin condition to determine whether this treatment is appropriate.
What treatments are available for sagging pores?
For sagging pores, we consider treatments that address the loss of skin firmness and elasticity. Sagging pores often appear elongated on the cheeks and other areas, and in some cases, simply removing blackheads may not be sufficient to address the underlying cause. At YAYOI CLINIC, we offer treatments such as Jubelook, which targets the dermis, and determine during your consultation whether it is suitable for your skin condition.
